I am in love with this crochet pattern and with this sweater!
The pattern is the Ombeline Cardigan by Sylvie Damey. Sylvie has many beautiful crochet designs for both women and girls.
This was my first of Sylvie’s patterns and I found it incredibly easy to follow. It’s also the very first adult-sized clothing I have ever crocheted, and she made it easy!
Actually, to be fair, I have attempted to crochet two pieces of clothing before this one, and ended up frogging them both due to poor fit. But this sweater is definitely a keeper!
I made a few changes to the pattern as I went along.
First, I went down a hook size to meet gauge, and then added 2 extra rows before the armhole as I like a little extra space in this area.
I added decreases in the arms as I didn’t want bell sleeves. Next time (and there will definitely be a next time) I will add a few extra rows to the sleeves as I find that they are a bit short.
The yarn is nothing special – a $6/pound factory mill end. But the colour is gorgeous and the fibre slightly silky. My first knit sweater was also this shade of blue – are we sensing a theme here?
Unfortunately, a pound of yarn wasn’t quite enough for this pattern and I ran out of yarn a few rows before the end.
Unbelievably, I found an EXACT colour match among the yarn selection at Michaels. I couldn’t believe it! This sweater was definitely meant to be!
I have 3 more of Sylvie’s patterns waiting in my to-crochet pile. I can’t wait until my arm has healed enough that I can get hooking again!
